Heavy rains continued to batter Rajasthan following one woman was washed away in Rajsamand district on Friday, while a flood-like situation was created in at least four districts on Friday, prompting the district administrations to announce the closure of all schools and deploy civil defence teams to rescue people, officials aware of the matter said.
“Following incessant rains in the last two days, many parts of Ajmer, Kota, Rajsamand, and Pali have been flooded. In Ajmer, the district administration has directed all schools to remain shut. Meanwhile, Kota and Pali district administrations have also deployed SDRF and civil defence teams across vulnerable areas to rescue people,” an official from the state disaster management force said on condition of anonymity.
On Friday, many major roads in Ajmer’s Pushkar were flooded as several cars almost drowned and residents got stuck at their homes. Nearly 1,000 houses got waterlogged in Pushkar, while the electricity supply was also disconnected in the region. In Ajmer city, several hospitals, including the JLN Medical College and Hospital, have also been waterlogged causing trouble for patients and their attendants, said officials.
“A fountain near Pushkar’s Jharneshwar Mahadev Temple is flowing beyond the danger level. In view of the situation, the SDRF team and civil defence teams have been deployed in several locations to rescue the people from vulnerable areas,” Deshal Daan, the commissioner of the Ajmer Municipality, said on Friday.
He added, “The district collector, Lok Bondu, on Friday also visited Anasagar and Pushkar regions and directed officials to keep a watch on the development. However, the situation is under control now.”
