Macron reiterates nuke shield plan, angering Russia

President Emmanuel Macron announced plans to discuss using France's nuclear capabilities to defend European allies, as part of a broader push for strategic security amid the US's reduced presence in Europe.
MOSCOW: He also said he would convene European army chiefs to explore sending peacekeeping troops to Ukraine after a peace deal.
In a televised address, Macron emphasised that France's nuclear deterrent protects not only France but potentially its European allies.
In response, Russia warned him against nuclear threats, dismissing European proposals for Nato peacekeeping forces in Ukraine and mocking him as 'Micron' in a jibe at his height.
The Kremlin said the speech was extremely confrontational and that Macron wanted the war in Ukraine to continue.
