INDIA REPORTS FIRST DECLINE IN POWER DEMAND SINCE COVID AFTER COOLER SUMMER

India’s overall electricity demand in the quarter through June declined almost 1.5% from a year earlier, following a cooler-than-usual summer that reduced the use of energy-intensive air conditioners.
Demand fell to 445.8 billion kilowatt hours in the period, according to data from the government's Central Electricity Authority.
That is the first contraction since 2020, when the pandemic brought the economy to a halt, according to Bloomberg News calculations.
