India’s retail inflation rises to 3.4% in March

India’s headline retail inflation rose to 3.4% in March 2026, from 3.2% in February, according to data released by the National Statistics Office ‘on Monday.

The March inflation numbers are still below the RBI's 4% medium-term target.

The print is in line with the consensus estimate of a Bloomberg poll of economists and the highest since March 2025, when it stood at 3.6%.Despite the marginal uptick, the March Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation remains below the Reserve Bank of India’s 4% target. CPI inflation has stayed under 4% continuously since January 2025.
