ED raids RJD leader in ₹85cr fraud

PATNA: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday conducted raids/search operations at 19 locations linked to former minister and RJD leader Alok Kumar Mehta in connection with a Rs 85-crore bank loan fraud case which involves the misappropriation of public funds and money laundering. The loans were disbursed to 383 fake beneficiaries between April 2020 and December 2022.
The fraud was detected in the inspection carried out by the RBI which brought a forensic team in November 2023 for verification of loan forms and found that the amount was embezzled in the name of 383 fake loan beneficiaries under cash credit limit and demand loan.
An FIR lodged against suspended manager Syed Shahnawaz Wazih, CEO Vipin Tiwari and chairman Sanjeev Kumar with the Town police station of Vaishali district. RBI has asked Vaishali Shahari Vikas Cooperative Bank (VSVCB) to stop banking business from 30 December 2024.
