Now, swift cardiac care at Jankipuram trauma centre
Hindustan Times Lucknow
|May 28, 2025
The state capital saw a range of initiatives highlighting the growing importance of emergency care. From enhancing cardiac emergency facilities at Jankipuram Trauma Centre to CPR training for bike taxi drivers and a knowledge-sharing workshop at KGMU, the focus remained firmly on preparedness, rapid response, and saving lives
LUCKNOW: Diagnosis and first-line treatment for heart patients is now available at the Jankipuram Trauma Centre, where a STEMI Corner and an operation theatre became functional earlier this month.
The facility, which can accommodate 20 patients at a time, is equipped to treat those experiencing chest pain, potential heart attacks, or cardiac arrest. Patients are being medicated swiftly to reduce life-threatening risks, hospital officials said.
The trauma centre, located strategically in Jankipuram Extension near the Lucknow-Sitapur highway, was launched in July 2023 to cater to road accident victims.
However, due to inadequate equipment and staff, it initially functioned more like a clinic, treating common ailments like colds and fevers, with a daily OPD of over 100 patients.
Chief medical superintendent (CMS) Dr VK Sharma said the STEMI Corner is critical during the "Golden Hour"—the first hour after the onset of a heart attack. Early intervention through ECG and immediate administration of the clot-busting drug Tenecteplase helps lower the risk to life.
After initial stabilisation, patients are referred to King George's Medical University or other higher centres for further treatment, including advanced diagnostics and guidance on medication and diet.
