THE COURT ALSO ASKED THE CENTRE TO TAKE STEPS TO ENSURE A SMOOTH TRANSITION FROM THE OLD TO THE NEW LABOUR LAW REGIME

- Shruti Kakkar

The Centre on Thursday informed the Delhi high court that the existing Labour Courts, Industrial Tribunals, and National Industrial Tribunals shall continue to adjudicate all pending and future matters under the new Industrial Relations Code (“Code”), until the tribunals envisaged under the Code are constituted.

The Industrial Relations Code, 2020, one of the four Labour Codes that were consolidated to replace 29 older labour laws, came into force on November 21. The Industrial Relations Code, 2020, replaces previous acts like the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, and the Trade Unions Act, 1926, to govern industrial relations.
