Snow, rains lash J&K, more on cards today

Fresh rains and snowfall across Kashmir led to a drop in the day temperature across the Valley in mid-spring.

The last one week has seen continuous rain and snowfall in the Valley, which has reduced the rainfall deficit of winter from 80% to just 39.7%, and there are chances it will drop further as the MeT has predicted rain and snow across J&K till Sunday. Even in the Jammu region, the deficit has reached 28.02%.

As per the MeT, the weather will improve from Sunday afternoon for the next week. The upper reaches of Kashmir, including Gulmarg, and several parts of south Kashmir witnessed fresh snowfall, which led to a drop in day temperature.

Due to continuous rain and snow, the schools in several parts of Kupwara district were closed till March 17.

The MeT office in Srinagar, in its daily bulletin, said that on Saturday, intermittent spells of light to moderate rain/snow (higher reaches) were recorded at most places.

"On Sunday, there will be intermittent brief spells of light rain/snow at a few places towards morning, and improvement towards afternoon is expected. From March 17 to 25, there will be generally dry weather with cloudiness on March 19 evening," the bulletin read.
