General Manager of Hotel Killed After Attack by Cops, 2 Arrested

Cops got into a fight with the staff member; the manager stepped in to resolve the matter

SHIMLA: A general manager of a hotel was killed and a staff member injured after an argument escalated and led to an alleged attack by "drunk" police constables on New Year's Eve, police said on Wednesday.

The deceased, general manager of Nature Valley Hotel, has been identified as Rajendra Malhotra, of Dalhousie Cantonment. The injured, Sachin Kumar, is from Bagdhar village.

The incident took place at Hotel Nature Valley in Banikhet, Chamba, on New Year's Eve after an argument broke out between front office employee Sachin Kumar and the police personnel who had arrived at the hotel in a private vehicle. When the argument escalated, general manager Rajendra intervened to calm the situation. However, the matter escalated and Rajendra, Sachin, along with one of the constables, fell from a height onto the hotel's parking area.

The injured were immediately taken to a private hospital in Banikhet where Rajendra succumbed to his injuries. While Sachin sustained severe injuries and was referred to Pathankot for treatment.
