Impeached VP Won't Rule Out Run for Prez
Hindustan Times Jaipur
|February 08, 2025
Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte said Friday she had yet to consider stepping down and was still weighing a run for president despite her dramatic impeachment this week by the House of Representatives.
MANILA:
In her first public comments since the impeachment, the 46-year-old, whose relationship with President Ferdinand Marcos has imploded spectacularly in recent months, said the case was now in the hands of her lawyers.
"The legal team is still preparing the defense and (deciding) what we will do moving forward," she said, adding she had yet to read the charges against her and urging supporters to "have faith" in her final victory.
Asked if she had given any thought to resigning, the vice president said: "We're not there yet, ma'am."

Impetus for science amidst a global churn
The relentless rise of technologies pervades every aspect of human life today, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) is its enforcer. From manufacturing to services, from nano-materials to space travel, from new chemistry to biotechnology, the pace of this rise is frenetic. There are two extreme ways—and a few in between—for countries to address this rise. The first is to be a passive user and play with markets, services, and exports of natural resources, including human talent. The second is to become a truly competitive player in this changing world, and to tilt the use of science and technology for our social and economic benefit. Budget allocations can help in pointing out the direction.
