A political slugfest over the caste census intensified on Thursday, a day after the government announced that the next decadal census will include caste enumeration, with the Congress terming the decision a "diversionary tactic" of the government and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying it has exposed the difference between the "true intentions" of the Centre and the "empty sloganeering" of the principal opposition party.
