The body of a 14-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped and murdered by her neighbour, was found in the latter's washroom in Jalandhar district of Punjab, police said on Sunday, adding, the 46-year-old accused, admitted to a civil hospital after locals thrashed him, was booked for rape and murder and under relevant sections of the Pocso Act, and will be arrested once he is discharged.

According to police, the accused is the father of the victim’s friend. “On Saturday, she went to the accused's house to meet her friend. However, he was alone at home while his wife and daughter had gone out,” commissioner of police Dhanpreet Kaur Randhawa said.
