India on Side of Peace: Modi backs Trump's Ukraine efforts

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has thrown his weight behind US President Donald Trump's efforts to broker peace in Ukraine, emphasizing on Thursday India's consistent stance that the conflict cannot be resolved through military means.
WASHINGTON:
Speaking at a joint media briefing with Trump following their wide-ranging talks at the White House on Thursday, Modi sought to clarify India's position on the conflict.
"The world somehow feels India has been neutral, but I want to reiterate that India has not been neutral," Modi said. "In fact, India has been on the side of peace," he added, explicitly stating his support for "Donald Trump's efforts towards finding a possible solution to end the war."
The PM's endorsement comes at a crucial juncture as Trump's recent engagement with Russian President Vladimir Putin has stirred diplomatic circles. On Wednesday, Trump announced he had held a lengthy and productive phone call with Putin, during which both leaders agreed to "have our respective teams start negotiations immediately" to end the war.
