Will Probe Funding Received by 'Illegal' Madrasas, Says Govt

The Uttarakhand government will investigate the funding received by the alleged illegal madrasas that have been sealed across the state, and a report in this regard will be submitted directly to the chief minister's office (CMO), said a statement issued by the state government on Monday.

After taking strict action against 136 illegal madrasas, the state government is now going to conduct a thorough investigation of their funding. And the report regarding the same will be submitted directly to the CMO, the statement added.

It quoted chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami as saying, "Action against illegal madrasas, mazaars (tombs) and encroachment will continue in the state. The illegal operation of madrasas on a large scale is a serious matter. Necessary guidelines have been given to the officials for investigation."

For the last one month, extensive action has been taken against illegal madrasas in the state. So far, 136 madrasas in the entire state have been sealed for not having complete documents, whereas, according to the government report, more than 500 illegal madrasas are being run in the entire state, the statement added.
