- HT Correspondent

DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) installed a smart meter at the private residence of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Khatima on Saturday. On the occasion, Dhami also sought detailed information about the smart meters from the officials.

The move comes amid widespread protests by Opposition Congress which alleged that smart meters would benefit the private businessmen and put financial pressure on the poor and middle class people.

UPCL superintending engineer Shekhar Tripathi said they informed CM Dhami about how the online data of the meter can be accessed.

Dhami praised the smart meter technology and said that the installation of smart meters will be beneficial for all electricity consumers.

According to officials, the installation of smart meters at Dhami's house will inspire the electricity consumers of the state to install the state-of-the-art smart meters in their houses.
