Zohran Mamdani, 34, has been elected mayor of New York City, several news media organisations projected on Tuesday night.
With 90% of votes counted, Mamdani had ‘won 50.4% of them, compared to former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s 41.6% in a closely fought contest.
