'Won't give an inch': Taliban after Trump threat to return Bagram

The Taliban government on Sunday rejected US President Donald Trump's bid to retake Bagram Air Base, four years after America’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan left the sprawling military facility in the Taliban's hands, Associated Press reported.

Trump on Saturday renewed his call to reestablish a US presence at Bagram, even saying “we're talking now to Afghanistan” about the matter. He did not offer further details about the purported conversations.

Later on Saturday, Trump threatened “bad things” would happen to Afghanistan if it does not give back control of the Bagram air base to the United States, and declined to rule out sending in troops to retake it, Reuters reported.

“If Afghanistan doesn’t give Bagram Airbase back to those that built it, the United States of America, BAD THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.

Asked by a reporter if he'd consider deploying US troops to take the base, Trump demurred, AP reported.
