Woman attacked by auto driver with brick, critical

Police have arrested the 25-year-old auto-rickshaw driver for attacking the 38-year-old woman with a brick during a robbery attempt last week, leaving her with a fractured skull

NEW DELHI: A 38-year-old woman was struck in the head with a brick several times by a 25-year-old auto-rickshaw driver during a robbery bid in west Delhi's Paschim Vihar last week, leaving her critically wounded, police said on Tuesday.

The woman was attacked on Friday night last week while she was returning to her home with Diwali gifts, left injured and bleeding and was only found the next morning, police said. The woman, identified as Rajni Devi, is critical and is undergoing treatment at a hospital, police said.

Deputy commissioner of police (outer) Sachin Sharma said that a case was registered last Saturday. The accused autorickshaw driver was arrested on Monday.

A senior police officer, who wished not to be identified, said that around 7:30 am on Saturday, they received a call from a man who said that he came across a woman lying injured in a vacant piece of land in Paschim Vihar east.

When police reached the spot, they found the victim unconscious. At the spot, police also found a bloodied brick.
