4 arrested in Bengal MBBS student's gang rape case

Four people have been arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 23-year-old medical student in a forested area near her college campus in Durgapur, West Bengal, late on October 10, police said on Sunday afternoon.

A local court remanded three of them in police custody for 10 days, while the fourth one will be produced before a court on Monday.

Originally from Jaleswar in Odisha, the second-year MBBS student is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital on her college campus. According to the victim's parents, their daughter was “abandoned” by the friend and later dragged into a forest by a group of men, who she said threatened to kill her if she “dared to shout”. The men took her mobile phone and ₹200 before fleeing the scene.
