India's 21-year-old, who is aiming to top the Fide circuit and qualify for Candidates was in joint lead on Day 2 in New York
BENGALURU: Arjun Erigaisi arrived in New York with one fairly challenging job at hand - win the rapid event to top the Fide circuit and qualify for the Candidates tournament.
After Day 2 and nine rounds of play in the rapid event, the 21-year-old Indian finds himself among the leaders. He's now at 7/9 points, sharing the lead with Volodar Murzin, Jan-Krzysztof Duda and Alexander Grischuk.
Four more rounds remain to be played. After a rest day on Sunday, the blitz event will take place over the remaining two days.
