The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking the immediate removal of Tamil Nadu governor RN Ravi, holding that no such directive could be issued to the secretary of the President of India.
NEW DELHI: The petition, filed by advocate C.R. Jaya Sukin, alleged that Ravi's actions violated constitutional principles and were politically motivated.
A bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar refused to entertain the plea, making it clear that the removal of a governor falls under the exclusive domain of the President of India and is not a matter for judicial intervention through a PIL.
