Prajwal plea for access to digital evidence rejected

The Karnataka high court on Thursday refused to provide photos and videos seized from a car driver's mobile phone to Prajwal Revanna, citing privacy concerns and the need to set limits on obscenity in legal proceedings.

The court underscored that the law cannot be changed based on the involvement of prominent individuals, including Prajwal Revanna, who is connected to the case. "Just because you are Prajwal Revanna, the law cannot be bent for you," the HC said.

The ruling came from a single-judge bench led by Justice M Nagaprasanna, which was hearing an application filed by Revanna seeking access to approximately 15,000 photos and 2,000 videos obtained from the driver's phone. Advocate G Arun represented Revanna during the proceedings.

During the hearing, the court questioned the necessity of releasing all the materials from the seized phone, which had been subjected to forensic examination.
