The situation in Manipur is largely under control with no death in the last four months but it can't be considered satisfactory, Union home minister Amit Shah said early on Thursday as he moved a resolution on President's Rule in the state around 2am in the Lok Sabha.

NEW DELHI:

The Lok Sabha passed the statutory resolution on the proclamation of President's Rule in Manipur — Parliament has to approve central rule within two months of its imposition — at 2.40am, after a marathon discussion on the waqf bill concluded.

In the dead of the night, a 40-minute discussion on Manipur saw nine speakers, including eight from the Opposition, with Shah responding to the debate.

The resolution — which passed by voice vote in the Lok Sabha — is expected to be brought in the Rajya Sabha after the debate on the waqf bill concluded but there was no movement till the time of going to print on Thursday night.
