Cong MLAs stage stir in House to condemn Amit Shah's remarks

The Karnataka Assembly on Thursday witnessed heated protests as Congress legislators condemned Union home minister Amit Shah for his alleged derogatory remarks on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, in the Parliament.

BENGALURU: The uproar led to disruptions in the proceedings, with the ruling party demanding Shah's removal from the Union Cabinet.

The chaos began during a discussion on maternal deaths in Ballari, initiated by Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka. Congress MLA H.C. Balakrishna interrupted, expressing his intent to move a resolution against Shah's remarks. He accused Shah of disrespecting Ambedkar and demanded that the Assembly formally condemn the Union Minister.

Balakrishna's statement prompted a strong reaction from Congress MLAs, who stood holding photographs of Ambedkar and began chanting slogans such as "Jai Bhim," "We want justice," and "Remove Amit Shah from Cabinet."
