Congress MP Digvijaya Singh on Saturday demanded decentralisation in his party and reminded the leadership that one of the key components of the Udaipur resolution - to set up an election management committee - has not been formed yet, people familiar with the matter said.

- Saubhadra Chatterji

Addressing the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister is said to have given the example of MGNREGA to highlight the importance of decentralisation, stressing that while MGNREGA had decentralised power, the new VB-G Ram G law has done the opposite. Just like the MGNREGA, the Congress should also decentralise power, the people quoted Singh as saying.

During the meeting, the senior leader also flagged the impending implementation of one of the 2022 Udaipur conclave proposals, which was to set up a dedicated election management committee to handle poll preparations. But more than three years later, the panel is yet to be formed.
