11-yr-old dies a week after rape, assault

An 11-year-old speech and hearing-impaired girl, who was allegedly brutally assaulted and raped in Narsinghgarh of Rajgarh district in Madhya Pradesh on February 2, succumbed to her injuries on Friday night in a Bhopal hospital, police officers aware of the matter said on Saturday, adding that they were yet to identify the accused.

Police said the victim sustained grievous internal injuries during the ordeal and underwent three surgeries, despite which she could not survive due to excessive loss of blood. Police suspect the accused is a close relative.

Rajgarh superintendent of police Aditya Mishra said the girl was living with her grandmother, uncle, and aunt in a hutment from where she was abducted.
