Port poised to welcome annual influx of well-heeled cruise visitors

THE county's money-spinning cruise ship season is about to start - with one town preparing a welcome for the first of eight arrivals.

Dartmouth has become a regular port of call for visitors from all around the world travelling on smaller cruise liners.
The town offers one of the most spectacular settings in the world as ships pass between defending castles to enter the narrow but deep estuary, and moor in the heart of the town, with the impressive Britannia Royal Naval College on the hill above.
Visitors are met on land by the cruise team from the Dartmouth visitor centre which includes French and German speakers, town crier Lez Ellis and the mayor, before spilling out to enjoy the town and South Devon countryside.
Many of the tours leave the town by steam train or riverboat.
