Vicious street attack on man
Hamilton Advertiser

COURT REPORTER
-
A killer serving a life sentence has been jailed again for his part in a brutal street attack in Carluke.
Stephen Kelly and three other men beat up a man who had gone to the town centre after being told his stepson could be in trouble.
He was knocked unconscious under a hail of kicks and punches and stabbed with a piece of metal as he lay on the ground.
Kelly, 29, is serving 22 years for the murder of lifelong pal Chris McMahon, 31, at the victim's flat in Braxfield Terrace, Lanark, in October 2023.
He refused to leave his cell at HMP Addiewell and attend Airdrie Sheriff Court, pictured, for sentence in the unrelated assault case.
Kelly, formerly of Lowriehall Gate, Carluke; John Gault, 25, of Lanark Road, Carluke; Alexander Sirrell, 34, formerly of Roseneath Gardens, Carluke; and Shaun Thorpe, 28, of Kelvin Gardens, Hamilton, admitted assaulting the man to his severe injury on May 25, 2023.
Sirrell also admitted chasing the victim's stepson and striking him on the body with the piece of metal.
