January 10, 2026

The first international Spice Routes Conference has concluded in Kochi after three days of discussions on the maritime corridor that has made Kerala a global spice trade hub for centuries.

- Ashraf Padanna

The event organisers reported over 1,000 delegates from 22 countries attended the conference around the Muziris heritage sites, featuring some 55 speakers.

The conference aimed to enhance intercultural relations by drawing on the legacy of the ancient Indian port of Muziris, excavated 27 years ago in Kerala’s Malabar region.

A key outcome of the conference was the creation of the International Spice Routes Heritage Network, a platform to promote history, culture, creativity, and tourism among nations.
