Lyon prevail over Arsenal in Women’s CL semis

LONDON: Melchie Dumornay’s late strike fired Lyon to a 2-1 win against Arsenal in the Women’s Champions League semifinal first leg on Saturday.

Arsenal failed to make their home advantage count at the Emirates Stadium.
Earlier, Arsenal’s Frida Maanum opened the scoring before Caldentey took the hosts level at the Emirates Stadium.
But after Caldentey’s penalty, Dumornay was on hand to bag the priceless winner ahead of the return leg in France next week.
Lyon have won the tournament a record eight times, while Arsenal last lifted the trophy in 2007.
Despite the scoreline and the weight of history being in Lyon’s favour ahead of the second leg, Arsenal midfielder Kim Little says they can reach the final.
