Kerala House to pass unanimous resolution against SIR
Gulf Today
|September 28, 2025
With the support of the Opposition, Kerala's Left Democratic Front (LDF) government is likely to pass a unanimous resolution against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in the state legislative Assembly.
-
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will present the resolution in the Assembly on Monday, when the House reconvenes after a short break.
Kerala government prepared a draft resolution opposing the Election Commission of India's (ECI) decision to implement the SIR of the voter list, which it says is a veiled attempt to introduce the National Register of Citizens (NRC) through the back door.
According to the resolution to be presented in the Assembly, Bihar SIR demonstrated the politics of exclusion.
"People were excluded from the voters list without any rationale. There is a country wide sentiment that same method will be implemented across the nation," the resolution reads.
