Kerala approves twin tunnel road project

The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) under the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has granted final clearance for the Kozhikode-Wayanad twin tunnel road project, according to Linto Joseph, MLA.

He said permission was granted with instructions to comply with 60 specific parameters. “A notification related to the same decision will be out within a week. We will be able to sign the official contract with the shortlisted company for the construction work,” said Joseph, who represents Thiruvambady constituency from where the tunnel begins. He added that the date of inauguration of the work would be announced soon after discussions with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The decision was made during the committee meeting held on 14 and 15 May. The EAC noted that the proposal had already received a recommendation from the State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) of Kerala.
