Israel's latest strikes in Gaza kill 38 more including children

Israeli strikes over the past 24 hours killed at least 38 people in Gaza, including a mother and her two children sheltering in a tent, local health officials said on Sunday, with no data available for a second straight day from now-inaccessible hospitals in the north.

The international community should look to sanction Israel to stop the war in Gaza, Spain's foreign minister said, ahead of a Madrid meeting of European and Arab nations on Sunday to urge a halt to its offensive.
Madrid was to host 20 countries as well as international organisations on Sunday with the aim of “stopping this war, which no longer has any goal,” Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares told France Info radio.
Humanitarian aid must enter Gaza “massively, unimpeded, neutrally, so that it is not Israel who decides who can eat and who cannot”, he said.
A previous such gathering in Madrid last year brought together countries including Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey as well as European nations such as Ireland and Norway that have recognised a Palestinian state.
Further details also emerged of the local doctor who lost nine of her 10 children in an Israeli strike on Friday.

Bessie Badilla advocates for indigenous fashion
A top Filipina model for nearly five decades whose first visit to the UAE was in 1981 for the “Aureo Alonzo Fiesta Filipina World Tour Group” in Dubai, and who cat-walked for Michael Cinco at the “Dubai Fashion Week 2023,” has said that fashion from her home country has been at par with the world’s best. Bessie Badilla, whose accidental entry into the glitterati of haute couture happened, when Manila hosted the 1976 “International Monetary Fund-World Bank Annual Meeting” at the then newly-opened Philippine International Convention Centre, also said that the intensifying interest-cum-awareness of even the Filipino youth concerning their indigenous fibres and artisanship would strongly impact on the so-called colonial mentality which historians from decades back had imaginatively labelled as “300 years inside the convent (Spain) and 48 years in Hollywood (USA).

Where is the housing help for the middle class?
A former state legislative leader says fellow Democrats in Sacramento have long ignored the housing needs of middle-class Californians. And he has a plan to help them buy a new home. To their credit, Gov. Gavin Newsom and Democratic lawmakers have been chipping away at regulatory obstacles to home building in recent years, particularly in the just-concluded legislative session.
