The federal government has informed the Supreme Court that it was helpless on the plea to save an Indian nurse on death row in war-torn Yemen.

In 2017, a court sentenced Nimisha Priya to death for the murder of Talal Abdo Mahdi, her former business partner, whose dismembered body was found in a water tank.

According to campaigners who are actively working to secure her release, she is scheduled to face execution on Wednesday.

"There's a point till which the Government of India can go. We have reached that point,” Attorney General R Venkataramani told the top court on Monday.

A bench of justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta was considering the Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council's plea seeking intervention to save the Keralite nurse.
