Husband arrested in Kerala over wife’s death
Gulf Today
|August 11, 2025
Police have detained Sharjah resident Satheesh Shivasankara Pillai upon his arrival at Trivandrum International Airport in his home state of Kerala, India, in connection with the tragic death of his wife, Athulya Sekhar, last month.
Pillai, who was fired from his job as a site engineer at a Dubai-based building contracting company after Sekhar's parents filed a complaint against him in Kerala, was apprehended by immigration authorities following a request from the Kollam police, where a case had been registered.
The 28-year-old, originally from Thevalakkara in Kerala's Kollam district, was found hanging in her apartment in Rolla Park on what would have been her 30th birthday.
The circumstances surrounding her death raised alarm, prompting local authorities to investigate as the family released videos of him physically abusing and mentally harassing her.
