Fresh landslides halt traffic on Wayanad Ghat

Traffic along the Thamarassery Ghat road, connecting Kozhikode and Wayanad districts in north Kerala, came to a halt once again on Thursday after a fresh mudslide was reported near the 9th bend, close to the Lakkidi viewpoint.

The NH (National Highway] 766 stretch, which had been closed since Tuesday night due to a mudslide, was reopened partially on Wednesday.
Heavy showers triggered another landslip, sending mud and rocks tumbling onto the road, blocking traffic completely.
Fire and Rescue personnel have been deployed to clear the debris. Authorities banned vehicle movement through the Ghat road, as the risk of further landslips remains high following heavy rains.
Authorities have announced that vehicular movement on this stretch of NH 766 will remain restricted until further notice.
