West Bengal on alert after 2 Nipah cases

The detection of two suspected Nipah virus cases in West Bengal has put health authorities on high alert, prompting the Centre to deploy a National Joint Outbreak Response Team and activate emergency surveillance and containment measures.

The suspected cases were identified at the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) at ICMR—AIIMS Kalyani, according to official sources. Following the detection, the Union Health Ministry moved swiftly to coordinate with the state government to prevent any potential outbreak.
