Michigan church shooter identified as Iraq war veteran

Ex-Marine drives truck into church and opens fire, leaving 4 dead and 8 injured

Sunday worship service turned into carnage when a former US Marine drove his truck into a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, opened fire, and set the building ablaze, killing at least four people and wounding eight others.

Authorities identified the gunman as Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, a veteran of the Iraq War. He was fatally shot by police after a gun battle outside the church, according to US media reports.

‘Act of targeted violence’

The FBI is leading the probe and has termed it an “act of targeted violence.”
