STEVEN SPIELBERG, JOSH O'CONNOR AND EMILY BLUNT TELL YOLANTHE FAWEHINMI ABOUT ALIEN DRAMA DISCLOSURE DAY

- YOLANTHE FAWEHINMI

IT’S difficult to truly encapsulate the impact Steven Spielberg has had on modern cinema.

His work is defined by his ability to balance blockbuster thrills with deep humanism, pioneering camera techniques and the integration of CGI and animatronics to create engrossing spectacle or tug at heartstrings.

Over the past five decades, the 79-year-old has captured the hearts and minds of movie fans with classic popcorn hits like Jaws, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and Jurassic Park, and absorbing historical dramas such as Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan.

So you can understand being Emily Blunt's excitement at being hand-picked by the director for his latest offering Disclosure Day.

“I think Steven Spielberg walks into every day with great hope. He has faith in humanity and in our shared destiny, and it is all infused into every movie he makes,” says Golden Globe Award-winner Emily, 43.

“So when you get a call that he wants to meet you, it’s one of those situations where, if you had a jetpack, you would stick it on and get to the meeting as fast as possible. We just sat for an hour and talked about everything as I tried very hard not to spend the entire time just talking about Jaws, which is my favourite film.

“But then we started talking about Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and he described Disclosure Day as a bookend to that. He gave me a hard copy of the script, and I jetpacked home. I read it in two hours.
