Volunteers wanted RAF veteran calls for more to help with charity

Georgie Smith, who served as a sergeant in the Royal Air Force for 26 years, is backing a call for volunteers from Help for Heroes as it aims to expand its community work across the region. The 45-year-old, who lives in Gloucestershire, says the charity has been a lifeline through some of her darkest times.

Georgie was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2015, a turning point that led to depression and mental health struggles. She received support from Help for Heroes' mental health team and attended sports and social activities that aided her recovery. In 2024, she reached out again after being diagnosed with complex PTSD, and now acts as an ambassador for the charity.
