CENTURIES from Ahmed Syed and Nic Halstead-Cleak put Gloucestershire’s second XI in a commanding position in their four-day game with Essex at Rockhampton.

After bowling Essex out for 249, Gloucestershire established a lead of 277 runs with a total of 526.
Academy prospect Syed made 134 with wicketkeeper-batter Halstead-Cleak, formerly with Bristol CC and Cardiff UCCE, making 113.
The pair put on 235 for the sixth wicket, and elsewhere, Joe Phillips hit 79 and Chris Dent 56, sharing an opening stand of 102, and Kamran Dhariwal made 44.
