Cycling legend launches inspiring autobiography

Cycling stories do not get much more powerful than this.

It was a privilege for this journalist to host the launch of Getting Back on the Bike, the memoir of South African cycling legend Cathy Carstens, at The Commonage in Wilderness on Wednesday 21 January.

Carstens made history in 1985 during the Cape Argus, when she became the first woman to break the three-hour barrier.

The book traces Carstens' remarkable sporting journey, from her dominance on the cycling circuit in the 1980s to her resilience in the face of life-altering setbacks and her eventual return to international success.
