COAL INDIA SURPASSED its annual target of coal supplies to the power sector on March 27 at 610.8 million tonne (MT).

- ARUNIMA BHARADWAJ

The company had an annual target of supplying 610 MT of coal in FY24. "This was highest to date and the company achieved the feat four days earlier than the FY24 closure," the company said on Thursday.

Additionally, the supply rose by 5% in FY24 from 582.5 MT of coal supplied to the sector in the last fiscal. Presently, Coal India's supplies to the coal-fired plants average 1.76 MT per day on the back of growing demand for power.

"This is the second consecutive year that coal supplies to the power sector exceeded the target," CIL said in a statement.
