MG adds spark to FY26 EV race, closes gap with Tata

AS THEY STAND
THE ELECTRIC PASSENGER vehicle market is geared up for an interesting race in FY26, with JSW MG Motor India closing in on Tata Motors which has dominated the space for long.
MG's market share more than doubled to 28% in FY25 from 13% in FY24, while Tata Motors' fell to 53% from 71%.
This shift in market dynamics stems from MG Motor's aggressive expansion, spearheaded by its Windsor EV, launched in September 2024.
The Windsor EV's runaway success saw it surpass Tata's bestselling models.
Between September and January, MG sold 13,997 Windsor EVs, outpacing Tata's Nexon (7,047 units) and Punch (5,708).
