Amid volatility, benchmarks gain for third session

ON THE EXPIRY day of monthly futures and options (F&O), the benchmark indices managed to end higher after swinging between gains and losses, marking gains for the third straight session.

After a highly volatile session, the Sensex closed at 76,759.81, rising 226.85 points or 0.30%. The Nifty gained 86.40 points or 0.37% to close at 23,249.50. It seems that Indian equity markets have shrugged off the pause in rate cuts by the Federal Reserve. However, the Nifty recorded its fourth straight decline for the January F&O series, falling 2.1% overall.

The FOMC on Wednesday announced a pause in rate cuts, giving itself more time to lower inflation and assess the impact of President Donald Trump's policies on the economy.
