Benchmarks fall for sixth day in a row

Barring metal & financials, other sectoral indices end in the red

AFTER A VOLATILE session, the benchmark indices ended lower for the sixth consecutive day on Wednesday. After plunging by over 900 points (or 1.19%) during the day, the Sensex staged a recovery and briefly entered positive territory, but ended the day with a loss of 122.52 points, or 0.16%, closing at 76,171.08.

The Nifty also swung between loss and gain, before finally settling above the 23,000 mark at 23,045.25, down by 26.55 points or 0.12%.

The Sensex has now shed 2,413 points, or 3.07%, while the Nifty has plunged 694 points, or 2.92%, in the past six trading sessions.
