AXIS BANK ON Thursday reported a fall of 4% in its net profit for the quarter ended June to ₹5,806 crore, missing analysts' estimates. The fall was due to a sharp rise in provisions and a deterioration in the asset quality.
The lender, however, posted a reasonably strong 14% on-year growth in the operating profit to ₹11,515 crore even though the net interest income was up just 1% on year at ₹13,560 crore. The net interest margin moderated to 3.80% from 3.97% a quarter ago.
