In June, Steve Reid interviewed Nico Zeelie from Northlink TVET College. He holds a key role at the College in helping to shape Entrepreneurship.

He asked him a string of questions to position the steady entrepreneurial work been done at College's.

He is Cape Town born and bred and has a banking background; has ventured into freelancing and now manages the entrepreneurial development unit at Northlink, within the Partnerships and linkages section.

Northlink has 7 campuses spread across the northern suburbs of Cape Town from Wingfield to Belhar.

They currently have just over 9 000 students enrolled, and their expectation for 2025 is in excess of 16 000 students with another semester and trimester intake for 2025.

Northlink is a college that prides itself on obtaining relevant information in line with their vision and therefore ensure they learn from their international relations in Japan, Netherlands and Norway just to mention a few.

Their students fair well on the academic scene as well as within Sports, Arts and culture.

What are ways Colleges can be entrepreneurial?

He believes colleges can become entrepreneurial by incorporating entrepreneurial skills learning and activities at a strategic level.

It must be driven by the executive management through a Unit like the one he is in, within a structure that spans the width and breadth of the organisation.

In essence activities need to take place at campus level not just by driving the agenda from the unit but through a push-pull-push effect.
