Controversial estate wall replaced with blocks and fencing

THE ongoing saga of an unattractive obstruction in a town has taken a new turn as it has been dismantled and rearranged to ensure walkers cannot get through.

The arrival of Okehampton’s so-called ‘Berlin Wall II’ in mid-April cut off a walking route used by residents to get their children to St James’ primary school.

The wall was mysteriously knocked down last month, leaving a gap in the middle big enough for push chairs and mobility scooters to get through.

However, on June 11 it was alleged that the owners of the land dismantled the wall and spread inter-locking concrete blocks across the path to impede prams and the like from getting through.
