Fight on the Right: Kemi Badenoch sets out her vision to cut red tape

A BATTLE for the votes of the right of the Tory party was under way today as Kemi Badenoch officially launched her campaign to become prime minister.

The ex-equalities minister was expected to lay out her plans for limiting the scale of government and reducing red tape at an event in Westminster.

Ms Badenoch was an outsider when she announced she was entering the race to replace Boris Johnson last week, but has secured the backing of Michael Gove and support from parts of the right wing of the party.

Ipswich MP Tom Hunt said: "Out of all the candidates she excites me the most. She's incredibly authentic, passionate and patriotic.

"I think Kemi Badenoch will tear Keir Starmer apart, defeat Labour and be a great success as Prime Minister."
